Lamoine Speck

December 14, 1924 — October 2, 2014

LaMoine Speck, 89 of Doniphan, died Thursday, October 2, 2014 at CHI Health, St. Francis, Grand Island.



Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with the Rev. Bill Pavuk officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery, Grand Island, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time Monday at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church.



LaMoine Speck was born December 14, 1924 in Grand Island, Nebraska the son of William and Edna (Christensen) Speck. He grew up in Grand Island where he received his education, graduating from Grand Island Senior High.



He entered the United States Navy March 22, 1943 and received an honorable discharge, December 28, 1945.



He was united in marriage to Eldora L. Semm on January 4, 1944 in Smith Center, Kansas. The couple made their home in Grand Island where he was employed as a contractor with Geer Melkus, John Claussen Construction Companies and Speck Construction for 20 years. He retired in 1980.



Mr. Speck enjoyed baking pies and bread, doing stained glass work, and building Grandfather clocks and furniture. He also enjoyed playing cards.



He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Platte Deutsche Society, Eagles Club, Odd Fellows Lodge and a lifetime member of the VFW.



Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Eldora Speck of Doniphan, two sons and daughters-in-law, David & Barb Speck of Grand Island, NE, Steve & Diane Speck of Maricopa, Arizona, two daughters & sons-in-law, Carol & Terry Johnson of Grand Island, NE and Aldena & Joel Boeka of McHenry, Illinois, nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.



He was preceded in death his parents; grandparents; one brother, Darrell Speck; and several aunts and uncles.
