Joy Glines

July 28, 1924 — May 4, 2010

Joy has journeyed to be with Our Lord Christ. With tears, we rejoice in her victory. Joy Glines, 85, of International Falls, MN, formerly of St. Paul and Hastings, NE died May 4, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center of International Falls, MN. Services will be Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 11 AM at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Hastings, NE with the Rev. Steven Peeler officiating. Burial will be in the West Lawn Cemetery, Grand Island, NE. Visitation will be Friday, May 7, 2010 from 12 noon to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. A memorial service will be held at the Good Samaritan Center in International Falls in July. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Joy was born July 28, 1924, to Danish immigrants Marius and Marie (Pedersen) Mickelsen, in Elba, NE. She was raised on the family farm in the area of Elba and Cushing Nebraska. She referred to herself as the babysitter of the family. Joy married Harold Glines on September 28, 1944. Harold was called to the Military and Joy followed shortly after to be close by. Upon Harolds discharge, they returned to the Cushing region. She and Harold farmed in the area and raised their family until December 1968 when they sold the farm and equipment to move to Hastings, NE. They moved to and worked at the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings. Joy worked in the rental office and office at Villa Grace until she retired in 1988. Joy had a love for her Lord! She was very active in her churches St. Johns Lutheran in Cushing, St. Marks Lutheran in St. Paul, and The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Hastings. She also enjoyed tending to her flower gardens. The kids have fond memories of hours tending to Moms large vegetable gardens as well. It was rare that Joy would be caught without a homemade apple pie to be pulled from the freezer for any unexpected guests to enjoy. She had a dry sense of humor that blossomed in her later years. She was a joy to those that cared for her during her five years at the Care Center. She treasured time with family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren who were a true blessing to her. Joy is survived by son Jim (Linda) Glines of Papillion, NE; daughter Pat (Tom) Smyithe of International Falls, MN; grandchildren Jenn (Craig) Bush of Omaha, NE, Stephanie (Brian) Mathews of International Falls, MN and Amy (Ken) Carew of International Falls, MN; and great grandchildren Mahala, Jacob, and Kyra Bush of Omaha. Also surviving are brother Miner Mickelsen of Grand Island, NE; sisters Elda Miller at St. Paul, Ann Meyer of Hastings, Louise (Jack) McIntyre of Wolbach, NE, Helen (Ray) Meyer of Fort Collins, CO, Ada Pedersen (Donald Goering) of Fort Collins, CO, June Wadas of Johnston, CO, and Dorothy (Larry) Jones of Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law Geraldine Mickelsen of Wheatland, WY, Lola Mickelsen of Dubuque, IA, and Dorothy (Glines) Francl of St. Paul, NE. Joy was preceded in death by her parents Marius and Marie (Pedersen) Mickelsen; husband Harold; son Ted; grandson Jim Glines, Jr.; brothers Dennis (infant), Earl (Bud) and Einer Mickelsen; sisters and brothers-in-law Eva and Andy Larsen and Mary and Elmer Christensen; sisters-in-law Pearl, Alyce and Lola Mickelsen; and brothers-in-law Chester Miller, Darwin Meyer, Donald Pedersen, Ray Wadas, and Ed Francl.
