James Byron Edwards

May our hearts be at peace with the passing of James (Jim) Byron Edwards on January 26, 2021, while living in Grand Island, NE. COPD and unknown natural causes took his life unexpectedly at the age of 82, while resting at his home. James was born on February 4, 1938. He is the third child out of five children born to Oliver and Greta Edwards. He went to his primary schooling in the Kansas City metro area until he joined the US Navy at the age of 17. At the age of 19 he was medically discharged with honors from his career as a sailor. James became a clever innovator and master of clerical and sales type careers that provided him with a good quality of life. He developed a zest for nice cars and rode his motorcycles traveling and living in the heart of Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri. James had 3 wives during his younger years, being divorced some years back from his last wife, and no children of his own. James being somewhat eccentric acquired property in the Kansas City area, and was able to hold onto unusual keepsakes including his childhood grade school reports cards and many pristine family photos. He cherished his vast document files, and he was quite the collector over the years.



James was preceded by death of his parents, his oldest brother Neville Ray Edwards, and his younger sister Virginia “Viki” Ruth (Edwards) Heller. He is survived by his oldest sister Margaret Valore (Edwards) Heller, his youngest brother Larry Lee Edwards, and many 1st and 2nd cousins, nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces.



His cremation will be done by Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, NE with Navy service honors. A celebration of life in his honor will be arranged at a later time.



Honorary Pallbearers: Daniel Heller, nephew, Russell Jay Heller, nephew, DiAnne Edwards, niece, Eric Heller, great nephew and Crystal Bartels, great niece.
