Irene D. Boehnke, 95 of Grand Island, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grand Island with the Rev. Jack Gillam officiating. Interment will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2013 in New Lutheran Cemetery, Norfolk, Nebraska. Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday, December 2, 2013. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or to Heartland Lutheran High School. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Irene D. Boehnke was born July 21, 1918 in Battle Creek, Nebraska the daughter of George & Amalia (Oetting) Eggen. She grew up on a farm in Battle Creek, later moving to Plainview. She received her education in Norfolk, graduating from Norfolk High School with the class of 1936.

She was united in marriage to Clifford Boehnke, August 25, 1940 at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk, Nebraska. The couple lived in Norfolk, later moving to Grand Island in 1945 where she worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for Cowtons Insurance Agency for 20 years. She retired in 1981 from the Grand Island Clinic after 11 years of service as the senior accountant. Mr. Boehnke preceded her in death, August 2, 2000.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a past president, of Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid, Trinity Altar Guild, and also the Evening Guild. A 40 year member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Choir, former member of Grand Island City Singers, a Girl Scout leader for seven years, past president of the Womens Division Chamber of Commerce, past president of Grand Island Medical Assistant Group, and a Red Cross volunteer at Lutheran Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center and the VA Hospital Medical Center.

Survivors of the immediate family include, two daughters & sons-in-law: Linda & Charles Brockmann of Paullina, Iowa, Ellyn & James Dillon of Canton, Ohio, one son; Charles Boehnke of Waterloo, NY, seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one brother & sister-in-law; Gilbert & Joan Eggen of Vancouver, Washington and a brother-in-law; Robert Harms of Grand Island

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford, four sisters and four brothers.
