Hastings resident, Howard Scott Kohtz, 54, passed away Friday, August 09, 2013 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare. Services will be Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10:30 am, at Faith Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 3 pm to 7 pm with family present from 6 pm to 7 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel, 505 N. Bellevue, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Howards request was a casual dress attire funeral; he didnt like to dress up and didnt want others to dress up for him. Memorials may be given to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation in Longmont, CO, or Faith Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE. Howard was born April 2, 1959 to Harold and Eleanor (Junge) Kohtz in Hastings, NE. He graduated from Hastings Senior High in 1978, then attended Central Community College Hastings Campus and graduated in 1981. He married Laura Stierwalt in Superior, NE on July 4, 1981. Howard was an avid Husker football fan and enjoyed talking football with his brother and friends. He was a fan of Nascar racing and enjoyed collecting Nascar memorabilia. He loved to collect miniature Hot Wheel cars. He knew a lot about the making of model cars. He was a member of the Melonroasters Car Club before his illness and enjoyed helping with the Melonroast car show. Howards love was for his family and was a loyal friend. Howard never knew a stranger. He lived his entire life in Hastings, NE but enjoyed traveling to South Dakota to visit grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Laura and daughter Sarah Kohtz both of Hastings, daughter Grace Chipman (Shaun), two grandsons, Dax and Merik Chipman all of Aberdeen, SD, two sisters, Connie Toohey (Paul) of Windsor, CO, and Sandi Kohtz of Loveland, CO, two brothers, Gene Kohtz (Mary) of Hastings, NE and Marshal Kohtz (Gayle) of Lincoln, NE and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
