Horace "Gene" Eugene Peak

September 2, 1932 — December 24, 2014

Ayr resident, Horace Gene Eugene Peak, 82, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at his home.



Memorial service will be 2 pm, Friday, January 2, 2015 at All Saints Chapel, Good Samaritan Society, Hastings with Chaplain John Mueller officiating. With Military rites outside the chapel. Burial will be at a later date in the Blue Valley Cemetery, Ayr, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.



Memorials may be given to the family.



Horace was born September 2, 1932 to Horace Lee and Rose Irene (Philleo) Peak in Hastings, NE. He attended the LeRoy grade school and graduated from Hastings High. He served in the United States Air Force as a second class Airman from May 29, 1951 to May 29, 1955. He served during the Korean Conflict and received the Korean service medal, UN Service medal, the National Defense Service medal and the Good Conduct Medal.



He married Catherine Rose Fry on July 29, 1956 at the Methodist Church in Hastings.

He worked for Werner Construction Company for 31 years and farmed all of his life.



He was a member of the VFW Club in Hastings.



He loved all his farm animals, and going to coffee with his family and friends when he was laid off during the winter.



He is survived by his wife Catherine of Ayr, one son, Darryl Peak of Juniata, three daughters, Mary Karash, Linda Schutte and husband Alvin all of Hastings, and Rose Graff and husband Frank of Ayr, nephew, Doug Fry and wife LeAnn of Lincoln, NE, 8 grandchildren, Michael Peakand wife Cindy, of Juniata, Michele Dengerud and husband Lance of Colorado Springs, CO, Tryson Peak and wife Andrea of Alma, Pike Osborne and wife Kris of Hastings, Katie Jones of Ayr, Josh Schutte and wife Kristi of Hastings, Frankie Graff of Florence, CO and Cody Graff and wife Bonnie of Glenvil, 19 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces and special friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
