Georgenia V. Kempt, 92, of Shelton, died Monday, May 26, 2014 at her home in Shelton.



Services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wood River with Pastor Brad Jepsen officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the Naponee Cemetery in Naponee, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or to Ascera Care Hospice. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.



Georgenia was born on April 27, 1922 in Fairbury, the second child of four to George G. and Lydia A. (Schriner) Janssen. She moved to a farm north of Naponee, Nebraska with her parents in 1925. When her mother died in 1932 she went to live with Victor and Clara Wohleb and their son Verlyn.



Georginia attended school and graduated from Naponee High School in 1939. She attended Kearney State College (now known as University of Nebraska at Kearney). After attending college for 1 year, she began teaching, continuing her education during the summer months by taking correspondence courses. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education in 1967. She received the Service to Education Award from Kearney State College in 1987.



On January 19, 1945, Georgenia was united in marriage to George W. Kempt in the Christian Church in Phillipsburg, Kansas by the Rev. F.M. McDonald while George was home on furlough from the United States Army. To this union four sons were born: Ricky Lee, Gary Wayne, Larry Dean and Philip Glenn.



After discharge from the United States Army, George and Georgenia moved to a farm near Belle, Missouri. In September of 1947, Georgenia was baptized in the Methodist faith at Koenig, Missouri. In February of 1948, they moved to a farm 11 miles northwest of Agra, Kansas. They moved to Hildreth, Nebraska in 1040 and to Holdrege, Nebraska in 1963.



Georgenia taught school for 42 years, teaching in two rural schools in Nebraska, public schools in Belle, Missouri and Upland, Hildreth, Wilcox and Loomis, Nebraska. Georgenia retired from teaching in 1987; then she and George moved back to the farm northwest of Agra, Kansas. In 1003, they moved to Alma, Nebraska. In 2010, Georgenia moved to Shelton Nebraska to live with her son and daughter in law, Phil and Cindy.



Georgenia was a member of the Koenig Methodist Churck in Koenig, Missouri, and attended the Free Methodist Church in Alma, Nebraska. She later became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wood River, Nebraska.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, foster parents, brother Bud, foster brother Verlyn and granddaughter Jordyn.



She leaves to mourn her passing, four sons, Ricky (Irma) of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Gary (Janelle) of Phillipsburg, KS; Larry (Peggy) of Agra, Kansas; Phil (Cindy) of Shelton, Nebraska; sisters Janetta Graf of Edgewater, Florida; Virginia Britt of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Vera Wohleb of Hastings, Nebraska; twelve grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
