George Vanzandt

Hastings resident, George VanZandt, 88, passed away Monday, August 15, 2011 at Mary Lanning Memorial Health Care, Hastings, NE. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Jonesville, MI. Arrangements by the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home and Cremation, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com George was born January 4, 1923 to George and Goldie (Ward) VanZandt in Hastings, MI. He graduated from Plainwell Michigan High School in 1941. He served in the United States Air Force during WWII as a Corporal from March 3, 1943 to April 25, 1946, stationed in China, Burma, and India. He married Dorothy Russell. February 19, 1944. He worked as a sub-station operator for Consumers Power Company in Michigan and retired to Florida in 1979. They moved to Hastings, NE in 2006 coming from Florida. He was a member of the 2nd Presbyterian Church, in Hastings, NE and the American Legion and Lions Club both in Dunnellon, Florida. He is survived by 1 daughter Sue Aldinger and husband Ralph of Hastings, NE and 1 sister Ruth Ann Zylstra of Wyoming, MI, 2 grandchildren, Jennifer Hannan and husband Mark of Kingman, Arizona and Christopher Aldinger and fianc(c)e, SueAnn Stockton of Coldwater, MI, and 5 great grandchildren, Alex, Koletin, Arianna, Kollin and Drue. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, one sister Mary and great grandson, Matthew. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donors choice.
