George R. Leetch

July 14, 1943 — April 23, 2017

George R. Leetch, 73 of Grand Island, died Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Park Place Nursing Care Center.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Apfel Funeral Home with the Rev. Les Ede officiating. Visitation hours will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.

George Rodney Leetch was born July 14, 1943 in Colome, South Dakota the son of Charles & Myrtle (Robinson) Leetch. He grew up in Colome, South Dakota, graduating from Colome High School with the class of 1962.



He entered the United States Army, April 1, 1965 serving during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged March 31, 1967. He returned to Grand Island where he was employed at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant until reduction in forces in February of 1971. He was later employed by the Veterans Administration working at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island until December of 1986. He also worked at Riverside Inn, Grand Island, driving the shuttle bus and doing maintenance work, and the Grand Island Public Schools from 1998 until 2003 when he retired.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, Grand Island.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling and the company at the Grand Generation Center.

Those left to cherish his memory include five brothers, Paul, Joel, Bob all of Grand Island, Ruben of Arizona, Kenneth of Marina, California, two sisters, Julia Dean of Griffen, Georgia, Inez Wardrup of Julesburg, CO, numerous nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Clinton (Pete), Charles (Stanley), Curtis, two sisters, Darlene Gish, Barbara Leetch.
