George A. Vlach

George A. Vlach, 81, of Grand Island died Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, May 8th at the Apfel Funeral Home – Grand Island. Parker Loghry will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 8:30 AM until service time at the funeral home.

George A. Vlach was born February 1, 1942, at Cotesfield, NE to George Vlach Jr. and Mildred (McDonald) Vlach. He grew up in St. Paul, NE moved to Worms, NE at a young age where he received his education in Merrick County Public Schools.

George married Connie Wheeler-Hansen on December 11, 1967, at Grand Island. They made their home in Grand Island where George was employed by New Holland. He later worked for Fairacres Dairy, did contract painting and was a truck driver for Nitro Construction.

George enjoyed any kind of woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Vlach of Grand Island; two sons, Marty Vlach of Grand Island and Lee (Trish) Vlach of Auburn, NE; daughter, Shannon Vlach-Smelker of Grand Island; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Ron Vlach; and one sister, Florence Jacobsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Mark Lane Vlach and son, Russell Vlach.
