Emma Marie Taylor

Emma M. Taylor, 109, of Grand Island, formerly of Doniphan, died Friday, September 28, 2012, at Golden Living Center at Lakeview in Grand Island. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A M. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Doniphan. The Rev. Kelly Karges will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 P.M. at the Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the Doniphan United Methodist Church. Mrs. Taylor was born July 23, 1903, at Sterling, NE to Daniel and Carrie (Buehler) Fuller. At the age of three her family moved to Grant, NE where her father broke horses and was a farmer. The family later moved to Trumbull, NE where she received her education, graduating from Trumbull High School in 1920. Emma married Willard N. Hildebrand on November 29, 1922, at Hastings, NE. They made their home south of Doniphan where they would raise their three children. Emma married Henry Matthiesen on September 19, 1935, at Clay Center. They lived in rural Doniphan. Mr. Matthiesen Died in 1971. She married Benjamin Taylor in June 30, 1979, and they made their home in Doniphan. Mr. Taylor died in 1991. In her lifetime Emma was employed for the Navy Ammunition Plant at Hastings, Davidsons Floral and Greenhouse, Yates Grocery in Doniphan and Earl May Seed Company of Hastings. In addition to working outside the home, she did numerous things for her family and others. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and loved to sing at the Senior Citizen Center in Doniphan. She also enjoyed reading, making various crafts and loved to crochet, knit and tat. She was a member of the Doniphan United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for over twenty years. Survivors include twelve grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands; her son, Carroll Hildebrand; and her daughters, Darlene Riese and Gloria Colman.
