Hastings resident, Eleanor L. Buss, 80, passed away Monday, January 11, 2010, at her home. Services will be Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the First St. Pauls Lutheran Church with the Rev. Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 9 AM to 9 PM with the family present from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Eleanor was born December 30, 1929 to Elmer and Flora (Grothen) Hobrock on a farmstead near Hastings, in Adams County, NE. She was baptized on January 26, 1930 and confirmed on April 18, 1943 at the First St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Hastings, NE. She graduated from the Hastings High School in 1949. Prior to marriage she was employed at Swift Ice Cream, Queen City Laundry, the New Method Laundry and the Debus Baking Company all in Hastings, NE. On June 28, 1953 she united in marriage to Charles W. Buss at the First St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Hastings, NE. To this union two children were born, Linda and Gloria. Eleanor was a homemaker and always supported her husband in his work. When first married they farmed near Blue Hill, NE, later her husband found employment in various retail store management positions. Eleanor and her husband were co-owners of three Republic Rexall Drug stores in the Denver metro area from 1968 to 1982. Over the years they have lived at Wendell, ID, Omaha, Sterling, Superior, Hastings and Alliance, NE, the Denver, CO metro area and later at Wichita, KS. In 1978, on the day of their 25th wedding anniversary, they relocated back to Hastings. Eleanor and her husband retired in 1993 and enjoyed traveling to many parts of the country, visiting friends and relatives along the way. Eleanor was a long time member of the First St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Hastings, NE. Other memberships include the Adams County Historical Society and the Adams County Genealogical Society both in Hastings, NE. Eleanor is survived her husband of 56 years, Charles Buss of Hastings, NE, daughters, Linda Scheierman and husband Steve of Hastings, NE and Gloria Smith of Lincoln, NE, granddaughter, Nellie Smith of Lincoln, NE, brother, Marvin Hobrock and wife Sheila (DeBacker) of Lincoln, NE and other extended family. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be given to the First St. Pauls Lutheran Church, the Harvest Heralds, Inc (Niemeyer Kenya Missionary) or the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital Hospice.
