Hastings resident, Dorothy Alice Aspegren, 89, died Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Perkins Pavilion, GSS, Memorial service will be Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church, Hastings, NE with Dr. Sam Rathod officiating. Masonic services will follow the memorial service by the Naamah Temple #108 Daughters of the Nile at the church. The casket will be closed. Book signing will be Wednesday, October 1, 2008 from 8 AM to 5 PM and Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 8 AM to 5 PM and Friday, October 3, 2008 from 8 AM to 5 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Dorothy was born January 24, 1919 to Ray and Josephine (Brehm) Slater in rural Harvard, NE. She grew up in Clay County and attended school there. She married Lester Aspegren of Saronville, NE on May 2, 1936 in Mankato, KS. Four children were born to this union. They lived in Harvard and later in Clay Center, NE. She worked at the Hastings Navy Ammunition Depot for many years. She later received her cosmetology license and operated a shop in her Clay Center home for 15 years. They moved to Hastings, in 1962 where she was employed at the J.M. McDonald Department Store for 15 years until her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Circle 9 of Methodist Women, Order of the Eastern Star, Naamah Temple Daughters of the Nile and Shrine Auxiliary where she did volunteer work sewing articles for the Auxiliary fund raising projects. She enjoyed time with her family. She is survived by her husband Lester, of Hastings, NE, 1 daughter Colleen and husband Larry Jacobson of Riverdale, NE, 3 sons, Larry and wife Nina Selby of Newport Beach, CA, Lyle and wife DeeDee of Cave Creek, AZ Lowell of Omaha, NE, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 3 sisters Frances Portenier and Ruby Dedrickson of Hastings, NE, and Delores Robertson and husband Art of Fremont, NE, and 1 brother, Ray Slater of Lawrence, NE, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister, a daughter-in-law, Donna and great grandson, Jordan. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Hastings, NE or Daughters of the Nile, Hastings, NE.
