Dorothey "Dora" Hefner

Dorothey I. Hefner, 89, of Alda, NE died August 13, 2020 at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, NE. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.



Dorothey “Dora” was born October 12, 1930, in Grand Island, NE to Edward and Florence (Crowe) Whitefoot. She grew up in Boelus and Grand Island. In 1949, Dorothey graduated from Grand Island Senior High.

On August 26, 1950, Dorothey was united in marriage to Richard L. McFeely in Grand Island. The couple lived in several places in Nebraska, Minnesota, and Ohio. To this union four children were born. On June 1, 1965, the couple started the Hall County Area Credit Bureau which Dorothey continued to own and operate until July 2020.

On November 10, 1982, Dorothey married Lyle D. Hefner. Lyle died on October 6, 2005.

Dorothey had a life-long love for and walk with Jesus. She and Lyle traveled in their camper to churches and church related conferences all over the United States. Dorothey learned to play piano by ear and had a gift for writing and recording Christian music, and leading praise and worship at many churches and worship venues. She enjoyed playing cards, going to thrift stores, time with her cat, Kiki, and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors of the family include children: Patricia McFeely of Hastings, NE, Mike McFeely of Oklahoma City, OK, Rich McFeely of Plattsmouth, NE, Sally (Michael) Hunter of Mount Vernon, IA; 12 grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Dorothey was preceded in death by parents; husband, Lyle; brothers: Lynn, Richard, and Donald Whitefoot; sister Helen Anderson; and son-in-law, Rick Palu.
