Donna M. Grothen

Hastings resident, Donna M. Grothen, 83, passed away Monday, December 19, 2011 at her home. Services will be Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at 10:30 am at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings, NE with Pastor Renee Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, south-west of Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Monday, December 26, 2011 from 12 noon to 9 PM with the family present from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Donna was born May, 5, 1928 to Louis and Fay (Athey) Laubon in Hastings, NE. She graduated from the Hastings High School in 1946. She married Wendell Grothen on February 9, 1947 at the First Christian Church in Hastings, NE. Wendell passed away March 4, 2006. Donna was a homemaker. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, south-west of Hastings, NE, also being involved and past chairman of the womens WELCA. She was actively involved in Christian Womans Club and weekly Bible studies. She was a volunteer as a Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare Pink Lady and helped with the Red Cross blood drives. She is survived by her two sons, Dennis and wife Leta and Gale and wife Kathy all of Hastings, NE, and seven grandchildren, Heather Greenwood and husband Matthew,of Fort Collins, CO, Heidi Burgett,of Portland, Oregon, Haley Vote, of California, Kristina, of Bejing, China, Lanette, of Hastings, NE, Sarah, and Geoff and wife Cindy Grothen all of Lincoln, NE and six great grandchildren, two sisters, Jean Beiriger and husband Bernie of Hastings, NE, and Glenda Ferguson and husband Clifford of Provo, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wendell, a daughter, Carolyn Burgett, a grandson, Anthony Grothen and three brothers, Junior, Jerry and Ron Laubon. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, south-west of Hastings, NE .
