Donald John Lanzendorf

December 22, 1931 — February 25, 2017

Donald John Lanzendorf, 85, of Grand Island, died Saturday, February 25, 2017 at his home in Grand Island.



Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island with Rev. Jim Garfield officiating. Inurnment of the ashes will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.



Donald J. Lanzendorf was born December 22, 1931 at LaMars, Iowa the son of George & Elizabeth (Gangler) Lanzendorf, He grew up in Owens, Iowa receiving his education from Owens High School. He entered the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War.



He was united in marriage to Joyce Arlene Pellan, June of 1954 at Mead, Nebraska. To this union eight children were born. He was later united in marriage to Pansy Marie Parker in August of 1983. He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad as a telegrapher/switch operator. He spent most of his life in Grand Island and a short time in St. Louis.



He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and the Eagles Club.



He loved trains and to watch them as they passed by. He enjoyed feeding the geese, collecting miniature trains, cars and coins. His great granddaughter, Hennessey was his Sweetie. He loved Barnie, his beloved animal friend.



Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Pansy Lanzendorf of Grand Island, sons, John Lanzendorf of Grand Island, Robert Lanzendorf of Skiatook, Oklahoma, George Lanzendorf of Alda, NE, Paul Lanzendorf of El Reno, Oklahoma, daughters, Barb Stutzman of Clarinda, Iowa, Mary Nissley of Clarinda, Iowa, Theresa Little of Grand Island, NE, Jennifer Woodall (Ray) of Caddo Mills, Texas, Pansys children, Jeannie & Jim Tramel, Steve & Judy Wilson of Spokane, Washington, Donna Foster of Tennessee, 18 plus grandchildren, 11 plus great grandchildren, brother, Richard Lanzendorf of Virginia.



He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John, George & Bill, three sisters, Helen, Jane & Betty.
