Dale W. Hongsermeier

March 12, 1926 — July 12, 2016

Dale W. Hongsermeier, 90, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Grand Island.

Memorial services will Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10 A.M. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 7th & Locust, Grand Island with Pastor Bill Schroeder officiating. Greeting the family with lunch will be in church basement following services.

Visitation will be from 5 7 p.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island. At Dales request his body was cremated.

Dale was the oldest child born to William and Ella (Horst) Hongsermeier in Grand Island NE.

He grew up in rural Hamilton and Hall counties and graduated in 1944 from Grand Island Senior High. He was inducted in the U.S. Army the last day of August and took his basic

Training in Texas. He was sent to the European theater of war and was wounded in April for which He received the Purple Heart. He was discharged in September of 1945. He returned to the farm to help with his fathers operation and start farming himself. The 14th of September 1947 Dale and Delores Koch were married at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island. They moved to an Ernstmeier farm northeast of Phillips NE. Two years later they moved to a farm east of Grand Island. In 1960 he was chosen as the Young Farmer of the Year by the Grand Island Jaycees In the spring of 1961 they moved two miles east of Wood River and in1968 they moved to a farm 2 miles south of Alda. In 1991 he retired from the farm and they moved into their home in Grand Island. After he retired he turned the farm and the operation over to Tom and helped him for several years. Dale liked working in the crops and also working with cattle and watching the calves grow into mature animals.

Dale & Delores were lifelong members of Messiah Lutheran Church. He served on the church council several times, taught Sunday School. Dale was member of the Platt-Duetsche Society, and the V.F.W. He was 4-H leader for a number of years and served on the Hall County 4-H Extension Board.

Dales bride Delores, parents, father and mother-in-law, an infant brother, two brothers Roger & Earle, a sister Carol, brother and sister-in-law Herb and Helen Koch, and two infant grandchildren preceded him to his heavenly home.

Survivors are his son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Teresa Hongsermeier of Ravenna, two daughters and son-in-laws Deborah Fallon and Jorge Torres of Roswell, New Mexico and Patricia and John Bell of Grand Island, and a sister Lois Redman, along with brother-in-law Jim Horsford and two sisters-in-laws Phyllis Hongsermeier & Carole Hongsermeier. Also left to cherish his memory are seven grandchildren Dawn Barth, Jennifer Hanna, Ilbersalle, Christopher, and Shane Fallon, Brittany Morgan and Aaron Devine and six great-grandchildren Caden Barth, Aubrie Hanna, Ni Ella, LaNaia, Jackson & Sean Fallon, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church.
