Hastings resident, Cheryl K. Hipple, 70, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society of Hastings Perkins Pavilion.

Services will be Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 10 am at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Hastings. The Rev. Steven Peeler will officiate. Graveside committal will be at 2:30 pm in the Hardy Cemetery at Hardy, Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Hastings.

Cheryl was born, May 27, 1944, at Long Beach, California to Marion Dee and Thelma Marie (Martens) Gillilan. She was baptized on May 27, 1944, at First Methodist Church in Compton, California, and confirmed on December 1, 1957, at the Union Church at Hardy, Nebraska. She moved with her family to Hardy, Nebraska where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Hardy High School in 1962.

Cheryl attended Fairbury Junior College graduating in 1964, and then received her Bachelors degree in education from Kearney State College in 1966. She taught K-3rd grade in Sabetha, Kansas. She later taught at Lincoln School in Hastings and then at Norman. Cheryls last year of teaching full-time, was with the Sandy Creek School District at Glenvil Elementary, she later did some substitute teaching.

Cheryl married Rev. Elwood Hipple on December 29, 1974, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil.

She was a gifted pianist, and would substitute when needed in all congregations her husband served.

Cheryl entered the nursing home in Sutherland, NE on April 7, 2009, and after Elwoods retirement in 2010, moved to the Good Samaritan Society-Hastings, Perkins Pavilion where she resided until her death.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Hastings.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Rev. Elwood Hipple of Hastings; several cousins, other extended family and numerous friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
