Catherine 'Mae' Petersen

At Our Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home Location, Kenesaw, NE. Holstein resident Catherine (Mae)Petersen, 85, died Saturday March 21, 2009 of cancer at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Society, Hastings Village. Services are 2 P.M. Friday, March 27, 2009 at Grace United Methodist Church in Holstein with Rev. Trudy Hanke officiating. Burial will be in Holstein Cemetery. Visitation are Wednesday night from 5 P.M. to 9 P.M. and Thursday from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. at Jackson Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw and one hour to services Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to Holstein Grace United Methodist Church or Holstein Cemetery. Mae was born July 1, 1923 to Raymond & Maude (Baily) Gentert in Holstein and she was the first of six children.She was raised on a farm and went to country school District 47. She then moved to town and lived with her Grandparents, to attend Holstein Public School, where she graduated. She married Woodrow Petersen, May 7, 1940 in Smith Center, KS. They lived in Holstein, farmed and raised livestock. She helped Woodrow with the farming, milking and many other chores. Leaving behind to cherish the time they had with her, son Herbert of Holstein, daughter-in-law Ellen & Gale Hagemeyer of Glenvil. She so enjoyed her seven Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren.In her family she just has 2 sisters:Lois & Marion Whitney of Hastings and Rachael Salmon of California. She was always willing to give a helping hand to others, loved to cook and made ethic dishes from both sides of the family. She made a lasting impression for her sweet & dill pickles. Preceded in death by her husband Woodrow Petersen who died Nov. 8, 2000, there son Clifford, a Grandson Greggory, Daughter-in-law Joan Fox Petersen, Parents, Brother Raymond Gentert, and two sisters: Maude Meyer and Eleanor Whitney.
