Bob G. Wells, 80, of Grand Island died Friday, June 29, 2012, at Good Samaritan Society Grand Island with his family at his side. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High in the class of 1950 and was retired from the Department of Agriculture as a Senior Investigator; he received a national award from then Secretary of Agriculture, Earl Butz, in 1975 in Washington D.C. for outstanding service. Bob was a United States Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 53 of Grand Island. He was very active in and loved sports as a basketball player and coach as well as playing baseball and softball in the 1960s and 70s. He also was a score keeper for GISH in basketball both boys and girls for many years. He was an avid Husker fan and supporter. Bob was very active and enjoyed watching his daughters and grandchildrens sporting events and other activities. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Bobbi, his parents, and his brother Gene. Survivors include his four daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Roger Peterson of Canton, Michigan, Melanie and Ed OBoyle of Grand Island; Melissa Eilers of Lincoln and Monica and Scott Shefke of Lincoln; brother Neale and Carol Wells, sister Janis Wells, sister Linda and Gene Wolff and sister-in-law Doris Wells. Grandchildren include Jake and Josh Peterson, Greg OBoyle, Kelly Euperio, Taylor and Tana OBoyle, Nikki and Jenny Eilers, Danielle and Collin Shefke; and great-grandchildren, Avery, Kian and Reilly OBoyle and Kendall Euperio; and two aunts Della Klimek and Mary Jane Hansen, as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves many close friends and associates. Bob loved his family and friends very much and was always there for them. Bob and his wife Bobbi hosted 10 foreign exchange students through the Education Foundation for Foreign Studies These students came to be extended members of Bobbi and Bob Wells family and they were fortunate to travel and visit many of these students in their countries and they even attended four students weddings in Spain, and one in Norway. Services will be at 10:30 am on Monday, July 2, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Jack Gillam officiating. A family prayer service will be at 10:15 am on Monday morning. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery, with a luncheon at Trinity Lutheran Church to follow. Visitation will be on Sunday evening from 4 to 6 pm at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wells family, to be designated at a later time. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
