Alice Olson, 103, of Grand Island, Nebraska died February 2, 2019 at Brookefield Park in St. Paul, Nebraska. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 11 AM at St.Pauls Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Pavuk officiating. Interment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be at Apfel Funeral Home from 4 to 6 PM on Tuesday, February 5, 2019.
Alice was born at the family home east of St. Libory, Nebraska on July 25, 1915 to Will and Minnie (Stender) Luebbe. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1934 after which she moved to Los Angeles, CA. She married Mauritz R. Olson on September 2, 1939 in Hollywood, CA. They moved to Grand Island in 1943.
Alice was a homemaker and worked for the Grand Island School system in the school cafeteria for more than 10 years. The couple moved to Johnson Lake in 1977, returning to Grand Island in 1990. They spent winters in Bullhead City and Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
Alice was a life long member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church. Along with her husband she was a member of the Eagles, Elks, Platt Deutsche, Liederkranz and the Saddle Club. She was a charter member of the Grand Island Does, having been a member for more than 50 years. Alice had also been a member of a church circle and an Extension Club.
Alice greatly enjoyed family events, cooking, gardening, playing cards and fishing. She was proud of the travels she had made with her husband throughout the United States, much of Europe and Central America.
Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, William and RoxAnn Olson of Kearney, Ne; daughter Kay Stofer of Grand Island, Ne; four grandchildren: Eric (Stephanie) Olson, Jon (Trish) Olson, Kari Stofer and Kristi (Kevin) Fraley; six great grandchildren: Jacob Olson, Tori Olson, Noel Olson, Tessa Olson, Will Olson and Kyler Fraley; two step great grandchildren: Alec and Ashleigh; brother, Marvin (Martha) Luebbe of Grand Island, Ne; and sister-in-law, Glenrose Luebbe of Grand Island, Ne.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mauritz; infant son, Keith; five sisters: Florence Meinek, Nettie Blaise, Louise Hennings, Melinda Luebbe and Norma Luebbe; three brothers: Harry Luebbe, Lester Luebbe and Ralph Luebbe; and son-in-law, Gordon Stofer.
