Hastings resident, A. Marie Pearson, 101, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, NE. Services will be Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church, in Hastings, NE with the Rev. Larry Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Friday, October 23, 2009 from 9 AM to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Marie was born March 31, 1908 to Harvey B. and Elizabeth (Hembury) Pearson in York, NE. She lived in Loomis and Holdrege, NE, graduating from Holdrege High School, in 1926. In March of 1927 Marie and her family moved to Hastings, NE. She worked for the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph, Hastings, NE; in January of 1928 she became the assistant chief operator during World War II and the chief operator from 1948 until she retired on March 31, 1970. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Frank H. Woods Telephone Pioneer Association, the local Retired Employees Group, the Hastings Business and Professional Womens Club, the Adams County Genealogical Society, the Health and Home Club and the Friendship Tea Group all of Hastings, NE. She is survived by 4 nephews, Tom Pearson, of Atlanta, GA, Kin Ronald Pearson of Las Cruces, NM, Dr. Ben Pearson, of Houston, TX, and Bill Zhe of Avon, NY, 1 niece, Jane Hyland, of Sodus, NY, many great nieces and nephews, 1 cousin, Ruby Marr, of Hastings, NE, and caregiver, Stan Mangers, of Hastings, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Orvey, and Byron and a sister Leona. Memorials may be given to the family.
