Thelma M. Spiehs

Thelma Spiehs, 95, of Grand Island passed away Monday, December 24, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society in Grand Island. Funeral service will be 11: 00 AM Friday, December 28, 2018, at Apfel Funeral Home. The Reverend Mark Oberbeck will officiate. Burial will be at Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will start at 9:30 AM until service time on Friday. Memorials are suggested to the United Congregational Church.

Thelma Marie was born on October 15, 1923, in Grand Island, to Walter and Gladys (Crabtree) Farris. She grew up in Grand Island and attended Howard Elementary, Walnut Junior High, and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1941. After graduation she worked at Fairmont Foods until 1959.

On March 26, 1943, she was united in marriage to Earle Spiehs at Red Cloud, NE. After which the couple lived in Grand Island. She was a member of the United Congregational Church, Platt-Duetsche and VFW Auxiliary Club. Thelma enjoyed crossword puzzles, coffee with neighbors, playing cards, embroidery, and polka dancing.

Thelma is survived by children: Connie Hartford of Grand Island, Tom (Jan) Spiehs of Grand Island, Rhonda (Dave) Stuvick of Garden City, KS; five grandchildren and one step grandchild; seven great grandchildren and one step great grandchild; and five great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Earle in 1986; brother: Walter Jr. (Maxine) Farris; and son-in-law: Jim Hartford.
