Hastings resident, Sylvia V. Wilson, 99, died, Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, NE. Services will be Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 2 PM at the Brand-Wilson Chapel with Pastor Matt Fowler officiating. Burial will be in the Geneva Public Cemetery, Geneva, NE. Book signing will be Monday, September 22, 2008 and Tuesday, September 23, 2008 from 8 AM to 5 PM and Wednesday, 8 AM up till service time at the chapel. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Sylvia was born December 1, 1908 to Jackson and Maria M. (Hoeppner) Walter in Shickley, NE. She grew up on a farm west of Shickley, NE. She graduated from Shickley High School in 1927. She loved nature and spent much of her time outside. She worked hard on the farm with cattle, calves and corn. Sylvia married Clyde C. Wilson, November 30, 1942 in Geneva, NE Sylvia and her husband tried to manage the farm, but Clyde developed asthma, and they had to give up the farming but still lived on the farm. Clyde passed away in January 13, 1959. In 1963 Sylvia relocated to Hastings, NE where her and her sister Mabel both widowed purchased a home. She was a cleaning lady at Good Samaritan Village for some time and continued to live in her home until the age of 99. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, and the Womans Christian Temperance Union, in Hastings, NE. She was also a member of the American Association for Retired Persons and the Nebraska Shut-in-Society. She is survived by, dear friends, Winnie Fitz, Clara Goodrich, Kathleen Howard, Ron Meyer, Betty Munsell, Rhonda Svoboda and Jan Thom and other neighbors and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clyde, step son, Revilo C. Wilson and 2 sisters, Mabel Holsinger and Carrie Walter. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Crossroads Center, the Salvation Army and the Mary Lanning Hospice Program.
