Steven R. Rose

Steven R. Rose, 66, of Grand Island died Friday, March 1 at home, after struggling with cancer. A celebration of life will be March 9th at 11:30 a.m. at Balz Reception Hall. Memorials are suggested to the family. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family.



Steve was born on June 8, 1952 at Spalding, NE to Carl Sr. and Clara (Swanson) Rose. He grew up in Greeley, NE and received his education at Greeley High School while under the care of close friends of the family, the Behnks. After moving to Grand Island, he was employed by New Holland and National Auto Parts, where he met and married Cloette Guerrero in the 1970’s. The couple had three children.



Steve started his own business in 1983, Rose Auto Glass and later, Exhaust Pros. After leaving the automotive business, he helped his son in plumbing and worked with his friend Brad at the time of his passing.



During his life he enjoyed fishing trips with family and friends, and would spend hours and days trolling for walleye. His favorite beer was Budweiser, and he and his “brother” Ott Behnks would argue about which one froze first, Bud of Miller High Life.



In his early years his brother Frank had a salvage yard in Cheyenne, WY which gave him access to muscle cars. His favorite one’s that he was known for were his three 1965 Pontiac GTO’s.



He is survived by one son, Eric Rose (Leslie Harmon) of Grand Island, NE

three daughters, Laura Ludemann of Las Vegas, NV; Amanda (Scott) Rodriguez of Kearney, NE; and Tyra Rose of Grand Island, NE; 13 grandchildren, Gage, Anna, Jill, & Amie Rose; Cloette & Sebastian Ludemann; Adrian Garcia; Tyler, Morgan, Rianne, Dason, Eyan & Brexton Rodriguez and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Jr. (Linda) Rose of Torrance, CA; Mauri (Carmalee) Rose of Cheyenne, WY; four sisters, Sally (Dale) Fillinger of Grand Island, NE; Ellen Rose of Laguna Beach, CA; Jean (Ron) Sutter of Cheyenne, WY; Sherri (Gary) Somerville of Ozark, AR



He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Frank & Jim Rose; one sister Janet Tiff; and his nephew, Paul Rose.
