July 24, 1947 — February 15, 2012

Hastings resident Sharon Lynn (Petersen) Field, 64, passed away peacefully Wednesday February 15, 2012 at 4:40pm at her residence surrounded by family. Memorial services will be Tuesday February 21 at 10:30 am at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, (2810 W 7th St) Hastings, NE with Pastor Barry Rempp officiating. Burial will be at 3:30pm at Cottonwood Cemetery, Burwell, NE. Book signing will be Monday, February 20, 2012 from 9 am to 9 pm at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Sharon was born July 24, 1947 to David and Ruth Ann (Jurgensen) Petersen in Burwell, NE. She graduated from Loup County High School in 1965. Sharon then attended the University of Nebraska College of Nursing graduating in 1969. She married Donald Field on July 25, 1969. Sharon began working as a Registered Nurse for Lundberg Memorial Hospital in Creighton, NE. In 1976 Sharon and Donald moved to Lancaster, PA where Sharon worked at Lancaster General Hospital as a Registered Nurse, until 1978. From 1979 until 1997 Sharon worked for Community Memorial Heath Care in Burwell, NE. Having received a Nurse Practitioner degree in 1995, Sharon and Donald moved to Hastings, NE in 1997. Sharon worked for Mary Lanning Hospital, in the Health Clinic, as a Family Practice and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner until her retirement in March of 2011. Sharon had so many hobbies and passions. She loved working in her garden whether it was harvesting a variety of vegetables, watching the neighborhood birds, or tending to her wide variety of flowers. She especially loved her beds of gladiolas. She loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren. They would spend hours together making family meals, an afternoon planting seeds in the garden, or endless games of Go Fish and Old Maid. In addition, Sharon loved music. She began playing piano as a child and continued to play until her passing. She played for pleasure, as an accompanist, and regularly for church service. Sharon also loved working with fabrics. She stitched many quilts keeping very few for herself, while generously providing them to so many family members and beyond. She truly enjoyed her relationship with her church, starting with the First Congregational Church in Burwell and then the Congregational Church in Hastings. You could always count on Sharon to dedicate her time to support activities and other church members. Sharon was also very active in PEO. She is survived by her parents, H. David and Ruth Ann Petersen of Burwell, NE, her husband Donald of Hastings, NE, one daughter, Rebecca Griffin and husband Norman of East Peoria, IL, two sons, Scott and wife Jennifer of Lincoln, NE and Eric and wife Lori of Plattsmouth, NE, seven grandchildren, Ashton, Cameron and Carissa Field all of Lincoln, NE, Emma, Amelia and Elaina Field of Plattsmouth, NE, Hailey Griffin of East Peoria, IL, two sisters, Janice White and husband Rolland of Broken Bow, NE and Barbara Coolman and husband Jim of Cameron, MO, two brothers, Alan Petersen and wife Susan and Glen Petersen and wife Judy all of Burwell, NE, and two sister-in-laws, Maurine Beason and husband Bob, and Lois Westphal and husband George all of Omaha, NE. Memorials may be sent to Kamp Kaleo, Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, Burwell Community Foundation-swimming pool, and PEO continuing education fund.
