Ronald Eugene Toben, 77 of Doniphan, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Tiffany Square Care Center, Grand Island. Services will be 11:15 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2013 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Doniphan, Nebraska with the Rev. Rodney Armon officiating. Burial will be in Cedarview Cemetery, Doniphan. Visitation will be 9 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Doniphan. Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Doniphan. Apfel Funeral Home of Grand Island is caring for the family. Ronald E. Toben was born August 13, 1936 on the family farm near Doniphan, Nebraska the son of Henry C. & Martha (Porth) Toben. Ron received his education from Doniphan graduating from Doniphan High School with the class of 1953. He then served in the Army Reserves. On January 29, 1963, Ron was united in marriage to Vivian McHugh of Grand Island. The couple made their home on a farm south of Doniphan until 2003, when he retired and moved to Grand Island. Vivian preceded him in death in 2003, along with an infant daughter. He later was united in marriage to Mary Crum on October 20, 2007. Ron was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Doniphan, the American Legion Club, and served on the Mens Cemetery Board. He was active with his children in 4-H and enjoyed playing golf and softball and sending his winters in Yuma, AZ, and the summers in Canada. Survivors include his wife, Mary of Grand Island, a son & daughter in law, Darren & Sheree Toben of Doniphan, a daughter & son in law, Tracy & John Cox of Omaha, grandchildren, Andrea & Eric Toben, Justin, Derek, and Ryan Cox, two brothers, Arnold (Marilyn) Toben and Wendell (Beverly) Toben of Doniphan, brother in law, Donald (Sharon) Treat of Hastings, sister in law, Rogene Toben of Grand Island and several nieces & nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vivian; infant daughter; brothers, Victor & Donald Toben; and a sister, Arvilla Treat.
