Rollin O. Packer, 72 of Wood River, died Sunday, March 24, 2013 peacefully in his sleep at his home in Wood River. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church in Wood River with Pastor Brad Jepsen officiating. Burial will be in Wood River Cemetery. Visitation hours will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church or Gideons International. Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River is caring for the family. Rollin O. Packer was born January 17, 1941 in Wood River, Nebraska the son of Otho & Rosa J. (Opp) Packer. He received his education and grew to manhood in Wood River, graduating from Wood River high school with the class of 1958. He was united in marriage to Joyce Dobberstein on September 25, 1960 in Wood River at the First Presbyterian Church. The couple made their home in Wood River where they farmed and grew potatoes for 48 years. He committed his life to Christ on Christmas Day 1975. He lived his entire life in Wood River. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Wood River and Gideons International. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, teaching his grandchildren to fish, and especially spending time with this family. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Packer of Wood River, two daughters & sons in law, Leann J. & Jim Gotchall of ONeill, Nebraska, Joann K. & Tom Hulme Jr. of Shelton, Nebraska, one son & daughter in law, Brian & Stacie Packer of Wood River, Nebraska, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother & sister in law. Jerome & Nancy Packer of Wood River, Nebraska, two sisters & a brother in law, Carolyn Olson of Holdrege, Nebraska, Barbara & Dale Herter of Gibbon, Nebraska.
