Roberta Jane Johnson, 89 of Lincoln, died Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Gramercy Hill Retirement Community, Lincoln, NE.

Memorial services will be Thursday July 26 at 10:30 am at First Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Rev. Dan Warnes will officiate. Lunch at the church will follow. Inurnment of the ashes will be at a later date in Omaha National Cemetery with military honors. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island is caring for the family.

Roberta Jane Johnson was born January 16, 1929 in Grand Island, Nebraska the daughter of Clarence M. & Margaret A. (McCutchan) Black. She grew up and received her education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1947. She furthered her education at Lincoln General Hospital, School of Nursing, graduating in 1950 as a Registered Nurse. She entered the United States Navy Nurses Corps, May 18, 1951 and was stationed in Great Lakes, Michigan. She received her honorable discharge May 17, 1953 as Lt. Jr. Grade.

She lived and worked in California, St. Louis, and Kansas City prior to her marriage.

She was united in marriage to Howard Johnson, December 18, 1958 in Grand Island, Nebraska. The couple made their first home in Central City, Nebraska. In 1963 they moved to Grand Island where she was employed at Lutheran Hospital for 22 years as a registered nurse. The last five years of her career she was a registered nurse at Hastings Regional Center. Roberta retired in 1995, after serving in the health care field for 45 years.

She and Howard moved to Lincoln in 2011 to be closer to their daughters.

Her hobbies included quilting, reading, cross stitching and working on the computer. She also enjoyed traveling.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Grand Island, women’s circle, YWCA, Women’s Veterans, American Nurses Association, Nebraska Nurses Association, and First Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Howard of Lincoln, three daughters, Kristie & Daryl Bohac of Waverly, NE, Stacey Schild of Lincoln, NE, Cherie Johnson of Eagle, Nebraska, five grandchildren, Erica Bohac and husband Chris Prokop, Sam Bohac, Alexander Schild, Erin Schild, Marissa Schild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Glenice Czolgos, and son-in-law Kevin Schild.
