Robert Lewis

Robert Brian Lewis, 87 years old, of Grand Island, Nebraska died January 26, 2018 at CHI St. Francis Hospital, Grand Island, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be Monday, January 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grand Island Veterans Home Chapel with the Reverend William Noer officiating. Memorials are suggested to Grand Island Veterans Home Members Activity Fund.

Robert was born on June 6, 1930 at Lexington, Nebraska, the son of, Robert E. Lewis and Cora (Mitchel) Lewis. He grew up in Minden, Nebraska and received his education at Minden High School and Kearney State College. He entered the United States Army August 2, 1948 and served in occupied Japan and the Korean War. He was honorably discharged May 5, 1952.

He was united in marriage to Katherine June Wood on May 30, 1953 at Ponca City, Oklahoma. The couple lived in Gering, Nebraska where he was employed by Safeway. He also lived in New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas where he worked for J.M. McDonald Clothing Company. Thereafter, the family moved to Grand Island, where he worked for Skagway. He completed his career as a manager of Walmart in Prairie du Chien, WI.

Robert was known for his sense of humor and his love of joke-telling, camping and fishing.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Robin Lewis of Santa Barbara, CA., and his sons and daughters-in-law, Brian D. & Cynthia Lewis of Kennewick, WA., Robert M. & Janet Lewis of Austin, TX. and Michael S. & Dana Lewis of Kearney, NE.; Eight grandchildren: Breanna, Jordan, Daniel, Lauren, Mitchell, Keaton, Kaleigh, and Kenzie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Cora, wife, Katherine, and brother, Jack.
