Robert L. Shuman

Robert L. Shuman, 71 of Grand Island died Friday, July 27, 2018 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha.



Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Apfel Funeral Home with Derek Apfel, CFC officiating. Family will be greeting friends and family 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2018, at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



Robert Lee Shuman was born February 27, 1947 at Omaha, Nebraska the son of Richard & Clara (Guzinski) Shuman. He grew up in Omaha and Grand Island receiving his education from St. Mary’s Grade School in Grand Island and graduating from Grand Island Central Catholic with the class of 1966. October 31, 1966, he joined the National Guard and served during the Vietnam War Era and was honorably discharged August 14, 1972.



He was united in marriage to Ellen K. Golus, October 12, 1968 in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island where he was employed at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, Grand Island City Electric Department, retiring from Case New Holland.



He was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Grand Island.



Bob was an avid waterfowl hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed tinkering around in his garage. He loved his fur babies, Izzy, Chaz, Zuko and Rizzo. When asked how he was doing, Bob would always respond, “fair to midland.”



Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ellen Shuman of Grand Island, son & daughter-in-law, Dane & Kellie Shuman of Placencia Belize, Central America, two daughters, Jennifer of Omaha, Emily and fiancé, Tyler Smith of Grand Island, sister, Dorothy (Tom) Cobb of Denver, CO, nephew, Rory (Roxy) of Grand Island and nieces, Cara, Jami & Heidi of Denver.



He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard & Clara Shuman, brother, Richard “Dick” Shuman, nephew, Richard “Richie” Shuman.
