Hastings resident Richard (Dick) Alan Bennett, 76, passed away Monday July 13, 2015

At Mary Lanning Healthcare peacefully and with a smile on his face.



Private family memorial service will take place at a later date. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings. Dicks wishes were to be cremated, the family will hold a special visitation to greet friends at Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings, Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Dick, (Gubby, as he was affectionately known to most) was born September 4th, 1938 in Holstein, Nebraska the son of Wilfred and Martha (Hansen) Bennett. The family then moved to Hastings while Dick was a small child. Dick attended Zion Lutheran School and Graduated in the Hastings High School class of 1957. Dick then started work at Johnson Well Casing at the age of 18 later becoming the plant manager. He later went on to retire from the State of Nebraskas Regional Center power plant in 2003.



Dick married his high school sweetheart Sharon Lynne (Wathen) on November 12, 1960 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings. This marriage was blessed with three children. Doug (Karen Larson), Deneeta (Donald Svoboda), and Dawn Hansen. Sharon preceded him in death on December 5, 2002



Dick was as avid race fan, and was partner in a race car and raced at local race tracks. He was also past president of the Skylark Flying Club and built many planes for both him and others. He could be found drinking coffee with his coffee buddies, and having lunch nearly every day at the Senior Center. Dick loved his family, his grandkids and great grandkids. And he loved life. Dick was taken in by several families as one of their own. He was kind, generous and loved to laugh. People rarely seen Dick without a smile on his face. He will be missed by anybody who had the pleasure of knowing him.



Dick was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brothers Darrel and Arvene (Rick) and infant brother Dean.



He is survived by his Son, his two daughters, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and his lil girl Misty.
