Hastings resident, Melvin H. Cox, 84, died Saturday, December 6, 2008 at St. Lukes Good Samaritan Society; Kearney, NE. Services will be Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 2 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Hastings, NE with the Rev. Alan Davis and Dr. Sam Rathod officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 9, 2008 till 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE and one hour until service time at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Melvin was born January 5, 1924 to Hurley and Viola (Michaels) Cox in Arapahoe, NE. He lived in the Wauneta, Aurora, and Arapahoe areas as a child. He graduated from the Arapahoe High School in 1942. He served in the Army Air Force from March 15, 1943 to October 23, 1945. He married Eileen Anne Wykert on August 5, 1946 she passed away November 22, 1994. He attended Hastings College and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business on June 5, 1950. He worked as a salesman for 3 M Modern Methods Office Equipment. He married Margaret Eeny Schaffer April 26, 1997. He had lived in the Hastings area from 1945 to 2008. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion, the Elks Lodge, UCT, TPA and Bagmons all of Hastings, NE. He is survived by his wife Eeny, 1 son, Ron Cox of Lincoln, NE, and 1 daughter Mona Lee Whitlake and husband Wesley of Minden, NE. 7 grandchildren, Lyndsey Bates, Lindsay Kempkes, Nessa Cox, Stevie Cox, Dawson Cox, Rebecca Sicisneros and Matthew Whitlake and 6 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Eileen, 1 infant son, and 1 brother Lloyd. Memorials may be given to Crossroads Center, Hastings, NE.
