Martha L. Goble

March 26, 1913 — July 2, 2008

Ayr resident, Martha L. Goble, 95 died Wednesday, June 2, 2008 at her home in Ayr, NE. Services will be, Monday, July 7, 2008 at 10 AM at the First Baptist Church in Hastings, NE with Pastor Larry Harvey. Burial will be in the Blue Valley Cemetery, Ayr, NE. Visitation will be Sunday, July 6, 2008 from 12 noon to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE and one hour before service time at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Martha was born March 26, 1913 to Herman Henry and Minnie Wilhelmina (Mischke) Hibbeler on their farm near Glenvil, NE. She attended District 26 and Pauline High School, graduating in 1931. After graduation Martha worked as a housekeeper for various families in the community where she eventually was employed with the Jay Goble family near Ayr, NE. Having started early with her life long love of cooking, her employers son Gaylord (Guy) was so smitten with her pies and smile that he asked her out. They were married July 4, 1934 at the First St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Hastings, NE, with the grooms brother Maxwell Goble and the brides sister Wilhelmina Bauer attending. After spending a year in California, they returned to Ayr to the farm along the Little Blue River homesteaded by Gaylords grandfather where they happily raised their four children. Martha was an active member of the Ayr Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school superintendent and teacher for many years until its closing, She then became an active member of the First Baptist Church of Hastings, NE, where she continued her dedication with the Ladies Church Circles. The Interdenominational Church Woman United of Hastings presented her with a plaque as a Valiant Woman in recognition of her work on May 7, 2004. Martha was a Leader for the Busy Bees 4-H Club of LeRoy where her daughters were involved. Along with her church and 4-H club activities she worked as a seamstress for the Singer Company of Hastings, NE and cooked for the hot lunch program at Ayr School, District 53. She was employed by Allens of Hastings for over 20 years where she was department manager for mens clothing and also sales clerk. After her retirement, Martha continued working in her church circle as well as volunteering in the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital Snack Bar. Martha is survived by, 2 daughters, Barbara Franzen of Ayr, NE, Janice Baird of Clay Center, NE, 2 sons, Thomas Goble and Jay Rifken of Corona DelMar, California, and Bill and Jane Goble of Topeka, KS, 11 Grandchildren, Marc, Jeremy, Adam and John Franzen, Greg Baird, Susan Griess and Jennifer Fleischer, Myles, Tim, Mia and Jennifer Goble, and 18 Great Grandchildren, 1 brother Herman Hibbeler of Hastings, NE, 1 sister, Edna Hinrichs of Hastings, NE and many nieces and nephews and her beloved dachschund, Buster. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gaylord, October 1, 1992, 3 sisters, 1 son-in-law Dan Baird, and a great grandson Evan Franzen. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church or charity of donors choice.
