Lois L. Ziola

Lois L. Ziola, 85, of Grand Island, died on May 5, 2019, at CHI Health St. Francis Skilled Care.

Memorial mass will be 10:30 AM Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island with Father Martin Egging officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Special Olympics.



Lois was born on April 19, 1934, at Ashton, Nebraska, to Carl and Clara (Barent) Hehnke. She grew up and attended school in Rockville, Nebraska. She started her nursing education at Duchesne College in Omaha and graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in 1955.



She married Leonard E. Ziola on January 19, 1957, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island, Nebraska. They resided in Grand Island, where she worked at St. Francis Medical Center until her retirement in 1995. She was very proud of her nursing career and time spent caring for her patients.



Throughout her life, Lois was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church and served on the Altar Society. She enjoyed catching up with friends and neighbors, spending time with her family, and attending her grandkids' activities over the years.



She is survived by her husband: Leonard of Grand Island; daughters: Mary (Glenn) Clifton of Stromsburg, Lisa Ziola of Hastings, and Kim (Casey) Oliphant of Kearney; son: Corey (special friend Shelly Bailey) of Minden; grandchildren: Laura Oliphant of Lincoln, Matthew and Kristin Oliphant of Kearney; half-brother: Alvin Barent of Rockville.



She is preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, and daughter, Karen.
