Lela A. Jones

Hastings resident, Lela A. Jones, 89 of 702 Circle C, GSV, died Sunday, November 25, 2007, at Perkins Pavilion, GSV, Hastings, NE. Service will be Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church, Hastings, NE with the Rev. Alan Davis and Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Valley Cemetery, Ayr, NE. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 28, 2007 from 9 AM to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Hastings, NE and 1 hour prior to service time at the church. Condolences may be sent to www.brandwilson.com. Lela was born August 28, 1918 to Paul and Goldie (Schroeder) Breithaupt in Orleans, NE. She was baptized in Huntley, NE. When Lela was 10 her family moved to Spring Ranch, near Pauline, NE. She attended grade school there. At the age of 14 her family moved to Pauline, NE, where Lela graduated from high school. After high school Lela obtained her cosmetology license in Hastings, NE. In November 14, 1938 she married Orville "Dick" Jones in Smith Center Kansas he died in 1979; they were married for 41 years. Lela was a cosmetologist for 50 years, having her business in her home for 35 years. She briefly worked at the Navy Ammunition Depot during the war. Lela was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hastings, NE. She was a Girl Scout Leader and was very active in Girl Scouts for many years. She volunteered at the Snack Shop at GSV and carried mail for Villa Grace, GSV. She is survived by, 1 daughter, Sandra of Reading, PA, 2 grandsons, Bradley May of North Platte, NE, Brian May of Placerville, CA, 1 brother Marvin Breithaupt and wife Rosie of McKinney, TX, and 1 sister, Velva Overy of Hastings, NE, and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be given to the Blue Valley Cemetery, Ayr, NE.
