Jeanne K. Whitefoot

Jeanne Kathryn Whitefoot, daughter of E. Adelaide (Haug) and Dale Stubblefield, was born December 31st, 1927 in the family home near Shelton, NE. She passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 12th, 2017 in Grand Island, NE at the age of 89.



She was baptized and confirmed into the Methodist faith. Her childhood was spent on a farm near Shelton, along with her younger brother, Bob. She attended first through eighth grade at District One School near Shelton, now displayed at the Trails and Rails Museum in Kearney, NE. In 1945 she graduated as Valedictorian from Shelton High School. Shortly thereafter, she enrolled at Hastings College and graduated in 1949 with a degree in chemistry and a minor in education. She began teaching Home Economics in Wallace, NE in 1949 and taught there until 1951. Per request of the School Superintendant, she even taught Aeronautics for a select group of boys. She continued teaching in Superior, NE from 1951-1953. In 1953 she returned to Shelton High School and taught for an additional two years. She then married Dale Whitefoot, of Boelus, NE on February 6th, 1955, and spent the duration of her life caring for her three children. After her children were grown she returned to work part time for the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation in Grand Island, and also worked 15 years as a rural mail carrier at Shelton, NE.



Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and E. Adelaide Stubblefield, and brother Bob Stubblefield. She is survived by husband Dale Whitefoot, daughter Lori Christensen of Grand Island, NE, daughter Camille Clague and her husband Allen of Gilbert, IA, Brent Whitefoot and his wife Sheryl of Kearney, NE, grandchildren Kathryn Christensen of Omaha, Nathan Clague and Ben Clague, both of Gilbert, IA, Alexa (Whitefoot) Grzywa and her husband Brandon of Papillion, NE, Justin Whitefoot and his wife Jill of Johnson City, TN, Tana Whitefoot of Kearney, and great grandson Emmet Grzywa of Papillion, NE.



The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff at Tiffany Square Care Center and AseraCare Hospice for their compassionate care and support.



Visitation will be held from 5-7pm at First United Methodist Church in Wood River, NE. Funeral services will also be held at the First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 16th, at 10am. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Wood River. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
