Jean M. Gallagher

November 23, 1921 — October 31, 2015

Jean M. Gallagher, 93 of Grand Island, died Saturday, October 31, 2015 at CHI St. Francis Health in Grand Island.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Father Richard Piontkowski will be officiating. Interment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

There will not be a public visitation. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society to be designated at a later date.

Mrs. Gallagher was born on November 23, 1921 to John Jay and Theresa (Conway) Kellogg in New Castle, Nebraska. She grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1940. She married Charles Gallagher on July 24, 1942 in Columbus. They lived in Lincoln while Charles attended the University of Nebraska. They moved to Grand Island where they raised their 3 children. Jean was a switchboard operator at the Veterans Hospital for several years. They were members of St. Marys Cathedral, the Saddle Club, and various bridge and dance clubs. Wonderful memories were made on their vacations to Jamaica and Hawaii.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Steven and Laurie Gallagher of Omaha, and Mark and Mary Gallagher of Deshler; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bob Niemann of Cairo; grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan and Christine Niemann of Grand Island, Jason and Adriana Niemann of Omaha, Scott and Heather Niemann of Lincoln, Jamie and Jake Haniszewski of Omaha, Brandon Gallagher of Lincoln, Theresa Gallagher of Sioux Falls, SD, Paul Gallagher of West Bath Maine, and Maria Gallagher of Sioux Falls, SD; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alice McClain of Aurora, CO, Verna Kellogg of North Platte; and dear friend, Betty Schweiger.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Don Kellogg; and infant grandson, Jonathan Lloyd Gallagher.
