Jacquelyn O Luers died January 24, 2013. She was born Jacquelyn Lou Ochsner to Margaret and Rinehardt Ochsner of Deshler, Nebraska on March 28, 1927. Jackie grew up in Deshler, graduating from Deshler High School in 1945. She earned a Home Economics and Hospital Dietetics degree from the University of Nebraska in 1949. Jackie was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She met Lee Luers in Lincoln, Nebraska after he returned from service in the U.S. Navy during World War II. They married December 18, 1949 in York, Nebraska. Jackie and Lee settled in Holdrege, Nebraska where their daughter Margaret Lee was born, and then moved to Grand Island where their son Thomas John was born. Lee practiced dentistry in Grand Island and Jackie was an active church and school volunteer. She was a member of PEO and various social groups. Jackie loved spending time with Lee. They travelled, played bridge, fished and enjoyed long conversations over breakfast and dinner. She was devoted to her family, her friends and Cornhusker football. She found great happiness in being a grandmother to Dietrich Koch, Philippa Koch and Mallory Luers. After Lee died in 1993, Jackie moved to Spirit Lake and then to Milford, Iowa, where she made many friends and found a spiritual home at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Spirit Lake. Jackie died in Spirit Lake after a brief illness on January 24, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by her brother Thomas Stanley Ochsner. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Margaret and Gary Koch and her son and daughter in law Thomas and Roslyn Luers and by her three grandchildren. She was beloved by her family and will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island at 10:30 Wednesday morning January 30, 2013. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery immediately following the service. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Grand Island, Nebraska, or Immanuel Lutheran Church, Spirit Lake, IA.
