Hastings resident, Joanne Kay Shottenkirk, 68 passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at her home.

Services will be Friday, February 14, 2014 at 1 pm at First St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE with Rev. Joel Remmers officiating. Private family burial at a later date in the Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice, NE. Visitation will be Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 4 pm to 8 pm with the family present from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family fromwww.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in charge of the arrangements.

Joanne was born June 6, 1945 in Mankato, MN to Clarence W. and Evelyn (Zatochill) Knaak. She graduated from the Beatrice High School in Beatrice, NE in 1963. She received her LPN degree from Kearney Vocational College in Kearney, NE in 1965. She married Herb Shottenkirk on April 3, 1965 in Beatrice. She worked as an LPN and retired from the Hastings Regional Center, Hastings.

She was a member of First St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Hastings, where she was also a Parish Ministry Associate. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. She volunteered for the Adams County Health Fair, Immunization Clinic, Kool-Aid Days, Hastings YMCA Aquatic Club and Special Olympics.

Joanne enjoyed gardening, swimming, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Herb of Hastings, daughter Wendy Gursey and husband Greg of Anchorage, Alaska, son, Terry Shottenkirk and wife Wei Wei of Fort Worth, TX, four grandchildren, Ryan Gursey, Ashton Shottenkirk, Ethan Shottenkirk and Sarah Shottenkirk, two sisters, Jeanne Delabar and husband Larry of Beatrice, NE and Marilyn Barklow and husband Bruce of Mankato, MN, numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
