October 17, 1930 — February 8, 2008

At our Alberding-Wilson location, Harvard, NE. Former Harvard resident, Harold E. Smith, 77, died unexpectedly Friday, February 8, 2008 at his home in Hastings, NE. Services will be Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Harvard United Church of Christ with the Rev. Stan Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Harvard Cemetery with military rites. Book signing will be Tuesday, February 12, 2008 from 12 noon to 9 PM at the Alberding-Wilson Funeral Home, Harvard, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Harold was born Ocotber 17, 1930 to Harold E. and Minnie (Bieck) Smith in Harvard, NE. He grew up on a farm near Harvard and graduated from Harvard Public Schools. He joined the Army and served over seas in the Korean Conflict where he received the Purple Heart. He married Ruth E. Mihm on June 27th, 1954 in Denver, CO. They returned to farming near Harvard, NE. After retiring from farming, he and Ruth moved to Hastings, NE. They began marketing antiques and glass grinding. Through their business they made many friends and traveled extensively. Lately he worked as a security guard at Central Community College. He also enjoyed spending lots of time watching 4 children and grandchildren participate in sports. For the past 10 years he was a member of the 1st Congregational UCC in Hastings, NE. He was a member of the Harvard United Church of Christ, active in church committees and boards. . He served on the Coop Board, and was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He is survived by, 2 daughters, Debra & husband, Sheldon Tobler of Harvard, NE, Brenda & husband Paul Prieksat of LeMars, IA, 2 sons, Lonnie & wife Paula of Benninton, NE, Timothy and wife Patty of Blair, NE, 1 brother Vance Smith of Los Vegas, NV, Nieces and Nephews, Kim and Craig Emil of Greeley, CO, Kathy and Mike Meienburg of Colorado Springs, CO, and Kevin Mihm, of Pueblo, CO and 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, in 2000 and his parents. Memorials may be given to the family.
