Gordon Sidlo

August 18, 1937 — September 7, 2017

Hastings resident, Gordon D. Sidlo, 80, passed away, Thursday, September 7, 2017 at his home.

Mass of Cristian burial will be Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 10 am at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Hastings with Father Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 7 pm Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings with Father Jeremy Hazuka officiating, a rosary will follow the visitation at 7 pm in the chapel. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home is in care of the family.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Gordon was born August 18, 1937 in Red Cloud to Ralph and Maye (Saladen) Sidlo. He grew up in Blue Hill and attended Blue Hill High School. Gordon joined the United States National Guard and served for 8 years. He married Mary A Schutte on September 21, 1955 in Lawrence, NE. After which the couple lived in Hastings where he was employed by the Hastings Regional Center and the Adams County Sheriffs Department.

He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church, Hastings.

Gordons family always came first, especially the grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and short trips to surrounding states. He enjoyed restoring old tractors one of his favorite hobbies. Gordon played the Accordion and was part of the Pavelka Band from time to time.

He is survived by his wife Mary, of Hastings, one son, Daniel (Viv) Sidlo, daughter, Deborah Sue, grandchildren, Liz (Joseph) Gangwish, Zachary Sidlo, Morgan Dilbeck, Jackson Dilbeck, great granddaughter, Thea Mary Gangwish, brother James Sidlo and sisters Martina Juranek, Janice (Byron) Pavelka, step brother, Lloyd (Connie) Ayers, step sister Virginia (Wayne) Peters , sister in law Irma Cummings and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Shirley, step brother Jack Cummings and step mother Dorothy.
