Hastings resident, Gladys May Townsend, 78 passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the Kenesaw Haven Home, Kenesaw, NE Services will be Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 2 PM at the Brand-Wilson Chapel, Hastings, NE with Rev. Dale Phillips officiating. Graveside service will be Friday, December 2, 2011 at the Crawford Cemetery, Crawford, NE. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 9 AM to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Gladys was born September 14, 1933 in Crawford, NE the second child and daughter of Frank James and Angie D. (Hack) Townsend. She attended Crawford schools and the United Methodist Church, attending with her mother and two sisters in her earlier years. She liked working in thrift shops, diners and caring for the elderly. The job she liked best was a live in caretaker for Verna Frendsen (sister to the then Nebraskas Senator Curtis) in Minden, NE. During her years she resided in Hastings, Blue Hill and Doniphan besides Crawford, Minden and Kenesaw. Gladys was a kind and generous person. She loved her family and friends, always giving them some little possession to show her love and concern for them. She is survived by her older sister, Goldie M. and husband James Jim Knoderer of St. Cloud, FL, younger siblings, Hazel A. Whited of Pekin, IL, Franklin G. Townsend of Broken Bow, NE, Jack H. Townsend of Hemingford, NE, Freddie A. Townsend and wife Charlotte of Herman, NE and Lilly Ann Hermansen and husband Ivan of Andalusia, AL, four nieces Diana, Joyce, Sheila and Debbie, four nephews, Roger, Shon, Freddie Jr and Ronnie, as well as grandnieces and nephews and cousins, Ronald Aschwege of Crawford, NE, Martha Keane Colburn of Brush, CO, and Russell Hack of Marsland, NE and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, JoAnn Frances, two sister-in-laws, Virginia (Franklin) Townsend and Delma (Jack) Townsend and brother-in-law Walter (Hazel) Whited.
