Gary L. Wiese

Gary L. Wiese, 81 of Wood River, died Friday, December 28, 2018 at CHI Health St. Francis, Grand Island.



Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church, Wood River. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island, NE. Visitation hours will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the church in Wood River. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church. Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River is in charge of arrangements.



Gary was born on April 6, 1937 at Grand Island, the son of Rudie & Leona (Kloppenburg) Wiese. He grew up in the Wood River area, receiving his education from District 44 outside of Wood River. In 1960 he entered the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1962. Gary was united in marriage to Alberta Husman on July 31, 1960 in Grand Island, the couple made their home outside of Wood River where Gary farmed.



He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Platt Duetsche, enjoyed polka music, farming and spending time with his family.



Survivors include his wife Alberta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Calvin & Diane Wiese of Grand Island and Marvin & Denise Wiese of Doniphan; grandchildren, Lacie & Chris Whitted of Stuttgart, Germany and Makayla Wiese of Grand Island; sister and brother-in-law Sharon & Darrel Gloe of Wood River.



Gary was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
