Long time Hastings resident, Fern I. McCoy, 92 went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 24, 2013. Services to be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 1:30 pm at All Saints Chapel, GSS, Hastings, NE with Pastor Brett Mackey officiating. Private family burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery, Kenesaw, NE. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 12 noon to 9 pm with family greeting friends from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Memorials may be made to familys choice or your favorite charity. Fern Irene York (McCoy) was born November 15, 1920 to Roy Edward and Lydia Amelia York in Julesburg , Colorado. As a small child she moved to Nebraska where she attended Wanda Lutheran Church and High School in Kenesaw. She married William M. McCoy on May 15, 1938 in Grand Island, Nebraska. To this union was born eight children. She began her cooking career at Spencer Park Public School. She went on to become chef, baker and later Kitchen Manager at the Hotel Clarke where she became famous for her special award winning cinnamon rolls. She was employed by the Hotel Clarke for 30 years until becoming baker and cook at her sons Treasure Island Restaurant and later at My Place Restaurant until semi-retirement when she was cook for the Adams County Jail until she formally retired in 2005. She is survived by her children, William E. McCoy (Sharon) of Bay City , Michigan, Richard L. McCoy (Karen), Jolene Rutt (Curtis), Glenda Thaut (Phillip), Jerry A. McCoy (Nancy), Randy McCoy, sister Leola MacDowell all of Hastings, NE., sister-in-law Eileen York of Grand Island, NE. and nineteen grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Joyce, son Ronald, brother Duane York, sisters, Neola Maurer (Donald), Madene Elliot (Bankie) and Elenor Echternach (Luther) and brother-in-law, Howard MacDowell.
