Eugene "Gene" L. Knuth

Eugene L. (Gene) Knuth, 77, of Grand Island, died Monday, December 02, 2013 at his home.

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Edgar Schambach will be officiating. Interment will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Wednesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or The American Lung Association.

Eugene was born February 23rd, 1936 to Hellmuth and Dorothy (Dora Schultz) Knuth, in Grand Island. He served his country in the US Army and Army Reserves for six years. On October 5th, 1958, he married Carol Campbell at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island where they were both lifelong members. He worked twenty-six years for Sperry (later Ford) New Holland. After retiring from Ford New Holland, he worked for the Riverside Golf Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of the Platt-Duetsche Society and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He leaves a loving family and many friends who will remember Gene for his big heart and kind spirit.

Survivors include his son Brad (Amy) of Omaha, daughter Denea (Dale Jenneman), grandson DJ (Shalynne) Jenneman, granddaughters Megan Jenneman (fiance' Coy Starke) and Emily and Anna Knuth, and three great granddaughters, Gabriella and MaKenna Jenneman and Arianna Starke; five brothers Howard (Arlene), Donald (LaVonne), Larry (Karen), Dennis (Wanda), all of Grand Island, and Gordon (Diane) of St. Paul. He was preceded in death by wife Carol, his parents Hellmuth and Dorothy, infant brother Frances and infant sister Eldene, and infant grandson William Eugene Jenneman.
