Eugene A. Hemberger

Hastings resident, Eugene "Gene" A. Hemberger, 88, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Providence Place, Hastings.



Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 10:30 am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Hastings with Father Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Burial will be in the Roseland Cemetery, Roseland. Visitation will be Monday, October 29, 2018 from 5 pm to 7:30 pm with a rosary following at the Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in care of the family. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com.



Memorials may be given to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Hastings.



Eugene was born November 15, 1929 to Joseph and Leona (Parr) Hemberger in Roseland. He attended Roseland School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from February 20, 1951 to November 19, 1952. Eugene married Germaine Kolbet on January 21, 1953 in Lawrence, Germaine passed away November 12, 2015. Together Eugene and Germaine farmed retiring in 1996.



Eugene was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Eagles Club, American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed golfing, music, dancing, tinkering and fixing things in his shop.



Eugene is survived by four children, Gordon Hemberger, of Hastings, Lamont (Susan) Hemberger of Juniata, Mark Hemberger of Fairbury and Laura (Scott) Rosno of Hastings, and son-in-law, Doug Volkmer of Clayton, NC, 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.



Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, wife Germaine, one son Paul and one daughter Mary Volkmer.
