Elmer D. Stelk

April 24, 1926 — July 15, 2022

Elmer D. Stelk, 96, of Grand Island died Friday, July 15, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society Village. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Dan Bremmer officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to Disabled American Veterans. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family. Elmer was born on April 24, 1926, at Grand Island to Detlef and Silda (Wagner) Stelk. He attended Seedling Mile School and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School. After graduation he helped on the family farm. On March 12, 1951, he entered the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on December 11, 1952.

On September 11, 1952, Elmer was united in marriage to Nola Jakob at Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island and Elmer farmed and then later worked for Hall County Roads Dept and New Holland. He was custodian at First Presbyterian Church for 20 plus years.



Elmer was a member of Platt-Duetsche, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and playing cards. He also loved drawing and was known for drawing cartoon characters.

Survivors include children: Carol (Craig) Bradshaw of Columbus, NE, Wayne (Roxy) Stelk of Chapman, NE; grandchildren: Laura (Evan) Moody, Mark (Michaela) Bradshaw, Miranda (Stephen) Goodspeed, Adrianne Stelk special friend (Sean Hall); and great grandchildren: Adalyn, Jael, Zeke, Eli, Brantley, Lennox.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Nola; sisters: Dorothy Tooman, Evelyn Starkey, and twin sister, Elaine Collier.
