Douglas V. Martin

Douglas V. Martin, 58, formerly of Beatrice died in Hastings. He was born on March 28, 1954 at Superior and moved with his family to Beatrice. He moved to Lincoln where he attended and graduated from Lincoln High School. He joined the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in Okinawa from 1972 to 1974 during the Vietnam Conflict. He married Robin Kennedy in Lincoln on January 2, 1982. After his discharge, he lived in Crete and worked at Peterson's Manufacturing in DeWitt for several years. He then lived in Lincoln where he worked at Mr. B's Grocery. He later moved to Hastings where he worked at the deli at Wal-Mart. He also worked part-time for the State of Nebraska road crew as a flagman. He enjoyed camping, fishing, country music and was a Nebraska football fan. Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Schafer of Beatrice; one brother, Alvin Martin of Liberty; one sister, Carol Wescott and husband Tom of Nixa, MO.; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Kennedy and brother-in-law, Mark Kennedy both of Lincoln; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Robin; father, Vernon Martin; step-father, Wayne Schafer; two brothers, Ronald and Rodney Martin. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Pastor Jack Magness officiating. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing. A register book will be available from 5:00 P.M. Sunday until time of services on Monday. Brand-Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the cremation. A memorial has been established to the family's choice.
