Doris Rose Pierce

February 12, 1925 — September 23, 2016

Hastings resident, Doris Rose Pierce, daughter of Samual and Rose (Weniger) Frederick was born February 12, 1925, in Lexington, NE., and entered Eternal Life on September 23rd, 2016 at Hastings, NE. at the age of 91 years, 7 months. She attended several rural schools in Dawson County and graduated in Eddyville, NE. with the class of 1942.

She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized on November, 1941.

On March 28, 1942 she married Walter (Gene) Pierce. Two children blessed their lifeGeraldine Faye and Homer Eugene.

They moved from Eddyville, NE. to Axtell, NE. in 1960 where both Doris and Gene worked at Bethphage Mission (now Mosaic) for two years. In 1962, they moved to Lexington, NE. and Doris worked from 1963 to 1983 at Barmore Drug Store. In 1984 they retired and moved to Callaway, NE. where they lived for 7 years. In 1991 they moved to Good Samaritan Village at Hastings, NE.

Doris was active in her church and community wherever she lived. Her Lord was the center of her life. Her primary concern was her family. She gave tirelessly of herself to her husband and her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Geraldine Faye and husband Larry of Ravenna, NE; her son, Homer and wife Margaret, of Hastings, NE; Grandchildren Stephanie Yost of Ravenna, NE; Amy Scanian and husband Dave of Spokane, WA; Brian Pierce and wife Debi of Omaha, NE; and Laura Dragoo of Crete, NE; two step grandchildren, Roxanne Cook and husband Michael, of Bossier City, LA., and Von Grove of Sioux Falls, SD. Great Grandchildren are Drew and Dylan Yost; Bradley Pierce and wife Sarah; Joshua Pierce and wife Brianna; Carlie, Casee, and Danielle Dragoo; Gracie, Madison, Brendan, Kamden, and Jax Grove; Kaden Cook; Brother Lewis Frederick of Colorado Springs, CO.; Sister in Laws Betty Lemmer of Lexington, NE., Vivian Pierce of Ontario, OR., and a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Her husband preceded her in death on June 25, 1999; also her parents, and two grandsons, Bradley James Pierce and Larry Dean Yost.

Graveside services will be held September 26, 2016, at the cemetery in Axtell, NE., at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Greg Lindenberger officiating. Visitation will be at the Axtell cemetery prior to the service at 10:30am. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in charge of the arrangements.
